Sarah, Janna, Krista, and Kathrina Bisceglia formed Whispering Roses with the desire to bring Celtic music to a contemporary audience. The four sisters share their music through beautiful vocal harmony and instrumentation.
Sarah’s great love for music shines through her touch on the piano. Her piano adds depth and richness to the quartet. Sarah began piano lessons at the age of four. She studied at Harmony Road Music School through high school, and participated in the National Federation of Music Clubs Junior Piano Festival, earning ten consecutive superior ratings and four gold cups. After graduating, Sarah continued exploring classical piano with Irena Burkett and Yoko Miyama, and improvisation with Dennis Plies, PhD. She is a certified teacher at Harmony Road Music School, and enjoys teaching at Harmony Road, accompanying violin recitals and choir concerts, and playing with Whispering Roses. Besides music, Sarah loves reading, writing, scrap-booking, cooking, and Irish céilí dancing.
Janna began studying harp at a young age, and has performed in orchestral, ensemble, and solo settings. She has recorded two CDs with Whispering Roses, and has been featured as guest artist on other albums. Janna has also competed and is the two-time Northwest Scottish Harp Champion. In addition, she is a pianist and certified teacher of the Harmony Road Music program. Janna now enjoys sharing her harp expertise at her home teaching studio, where she helps students explore the full potential of their harp with classical, Celtic, sacred, ethnic and contemporary music. Janna also delights in reading, baking (desserts especially!), sewing, and Irish céilí dancing.
Krista has been playing the wooden recorders for fourteen years. Her effortless musicianship and talent as a multi-instrumentalist can be heard as she plays sopranino, soprano, alto and tenor recorders (also known as English Flutes), pennywhistle, and autoharp. Krista’s composition for piano, harp, recorder and violin “Journey Through The Highlands” won a national award in her age group at the NFMC Composition Contest. “Journey Through The Highlands” is the title piece of the Bisceglia Family’s debut CD. In 2010, her Celtic piece “On Seaward Wings”, composed for the same instrumentation, won second in the nation in the senior division of the NFMC competition. Krista spends her spare time journaling, Irish céilí dancing, drawing and rock painting.
Kathrina’s talent for music was obvious from a young age. As her skill in both piano and violin grew, she fell in love with the violin and shifted her focus accordingly. She studied Suzuki violin first, and when the sisters formed Whispering Roses, she began to explore the realm of Celtic fiddling. Kathrina has enjoyed lessons and workshops on fiddling, learning from some of the best fiddlers in America and Ireland. She continues her studies in classical violin, and loves experiencing the variety in her musical life - leading classical violin students in a recital one day, and fiddling at a jam session the next. Kathrina’s talent on her instrument in shown in her ability to play lead, or create beautiful harmonies. She is also available to play solo Celtic fiddle for wedding ceremonies and receptions. Aside from music Kathrina enjoys doing graphic design for Whispering Roses, handcrafting note cards, and Irish céilí dancing.
